My God is Brown is a collection of poems that explores family, land, labor, ancestry, and Indigenous memory. Grounded in California and the borderlands, Angélica M. Yañez honors farmworkers, grandmothers, cultural survival, and the everyday sacredness found within ordinary life.
 
Through poems that are both intimate and communal, Yañez reflects on what we inherit, what we lose, and the stories we carry forward. At its heart, My God is Brown is an affirmation of brown life, brown beauty, and the power of remembering.
 
Angélica M. Yañez is an Indigenous Chicana poet, writer, and educator from California’s Central Coast whose work explores land, memory, ancestry, and the everyday sacred. She is the recipient of the Moon Prize from Writing in a Woman's Voice, has been featured by Planned Parenthood, and has been invited to share her poetry at Chicano Park Day and The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture. Her writing has appeared in Angel City Review, The San Diego Poetry Annual, and other journals and anthologies. She is the founder of The Ancestral Teachings Institute, a space dedicated to Indigenous wisdom, ceremony, and decolonial learning. She holds a PhD in Ethnic Studies from UC San Diego and currently teaches at a community college in San Diego.
