Pocha Prayerbook: A Chicana's Poetic Exploration of the Rosary Through Uni/Verses invites you into a playful reimagining of prayer through the five parts of the rosary. This collection explores dementia, having a loved one that struggles with addiction, and the injustices of the criminal justice system. We are along for the car rides with her mami and end up on her tía’s front porch in Maywood in South East LA.  We find ourselves questioning terms and the absence of Chicana stories and voices. Throughout the collection we explore the meaning of places that are both sacred and full of contradictions. Places that are full of beauty and deep sadness and inequality. We find solace in the stars and the moon. We find solace in the painted murals of the Virgen de Guadalupe, in the shape of our hands. We find solace in the ways our ancestors have held out their hands to us, from above to guide us, we grieve the losses. We return to prayer, to signs, and to our breath. This is how we survive, we remember, we hold our people close and pray to the stars and the galaxy. We float together with our collective grief, our collective power, and we transmute energy to create new worlds.
